Jeffrey de Zwaan has reached the last sixteen at the 2020 Players Championship Finals. He lost the eighth-finals to the eventual champion Michael van Gerwen.
Van Gerwen was quickly in control. The 31-year-old from Vlijmen entered the commercial break with a 4-1 lead. Van Gerwen failed to take a 5-1 lead, de Zwaan came back to 4-3 thanks to a magnificent 142 finish. Van Gerwen ran to 8-3 with five legs in a row.
The three-time world champion had to work for it. After a mediocre phase, De Zwaan managed to bring back the tension to 6-8 and 7-9. The Leidschendammer got a chance to break but missed his only dart on tops. Van Gerwen did not fail on double 2 thus won the match and ended Jeffrey's run after two victories over Darren Webster and Wayne Jones both with an average over 100.
